Aloha Kakou!
Let's enjoy English academic writing! We, the students of ELI 83, a course on academic writing for international students, have created this online resource with the purpose to voice the issues of second language speakers of English in the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

In an open email to the faculty, we already addressed some of the issues that second language speakers face when they start to study in English-speaking country. Accordingly, we intend to raise awareness among instructors on the needs of second language writers in the American university system. We are sharing our experiences with developing academic writing skills in English.

Please click on the tab "Literacy Biographies" to read through stories about who we are as scholars, our journeys in English at home and at UH Manoa. Read our stories, read in our pictures, and comment on our ideas in the blog we developed. The website originated from ELI83 instructed by Angela Haeusler in Fall semester 2011 in UH Manoa and the English Language Institute. We really enjoyed our class and now appreciate our instructor, Angela, who never stopped showing her concerns and beautiful smile to us.

Writing is not a simple dictation of our thought, but a complicated and demanding work asking us to keep writing continuously, especially as a future scholars in academia. We will be happy if you share your experiences with us !!
